There are concerns that more than a thousand women, have been subjected to an horrific practice known as "breast ironing" in Britain.

The ritual consists of young girls being beaten, burnt and massaged in an attempt to stop them developing properly and thus make them less attractive to the opposite sex so they can focus more on school work. It is mostly carried out at home, by the girl's mother.

Hot instruments are used to burn the girl's breasts while many have bands tied tightly around their chests. Experts believe the ritual can cause cysts, abscesses, even breast cancer.

Conservative MP Jake Berry found that almost a quarter of children's services are not trained to deal with the practice, whilst 15% of police forces were unaware it even existed, from a Freedom of Information request.

No convictions have been made to date in Britian, but Mr Berry is calling on the Government to make this practice a criminal offence.

One woman, who was given a fake name, spoke to Sky News about how she endured this horrible ritual at adolescence:

"They put the spatula on the fire and then they press it on the breast and yes, it hurts. Then it goes weak, it's like melting, fat melting and you can feel the breast going back… one of my breasts is bigger than the other one."
