The artist's tax exemption is in doubt, with Revenue advising it be abolished altogether because it is outdated.

The tax perk was introduced in 1969 by Charles Haughey for struggling artists.

It costs revenue about €270,000 a year and is availed of by over 2 thousand people.

The Finance Minister Michael Noonan is said to be reviewing the scheme.
