A viable device has been made safe by the Army Bomb Disposal Team in Cork city.
The team were called to a forested area near the Lee Road Friday afternoon, in response to a request from An Garda Síochána.
A suspicious device was found protruding from undergrowth by members of the public.

The team arrived on the scene at 5.00pm and made the device safe by a controlled explosion.
The scene was declared safe at 7.00pm.
The device was an historic, yet viable, artillery shell.
This type of shell is from the early 20th century - and was used during the War of Independence and World War I.
