Amazon is set to substantially boost its Dublin presence as it sets in motion plans for what could end up being a massive campus in Mulhuddart.
The web services and online retail giant has already furnished Fingal County Council with a submission to build a 20,739 sq metre data centre there, costing up to €200m. However, the Irish Independent reports that a further seven smaller centres could follow on the IDA-owned location, involving an estimated future spend of another €700m.
Work on 'Project G' will commence this year and take roughly 18 months to complete, creating 400 construction jobs in the process.
Amazon already has a number of data centres in Blanchardstown and three around the Tallaght area, and is currently building a massive data centre at the Clonshaugh Business and Technology Park, next to Dublin Airport. It currently employs 1,400 people in the capital, as well as 800 in Cork.
As well as hosting its own internet operations, Amazon's data centres also have global clients including the likes of Kellogg's, Netflix and Unilever.
In May 2016, Jeff Bezos' near-$400bn valued company agreed to rent one of the largest new single office blocks under construction in Dublin. Agreeing an average rent of about €50 per sq foot across Johnny Ronan's 'Vertium' building (pictured), it was one of the biggest lease deals of the year.
Later that month, the company announced that it would be bringing 500 new jobs to Dublin over the next two years.
