Armed gardaí will continue to patrol the streets of Dublin over the coming days after a man was gunned down in a hotel.

32-year-old David Byrne from Crumlin was killed in the shooting at the Regency in Drumcondra on Friday afternoon.

Gardaí have confirmed the incident is linked to organised crime, and say they are hunting for six suspects.

Assistant Commissioner John O'Mahony says gardaí are investigating the possibility that the shooting is linked to drugs.

"We will have to be very, very vigilant in ensuring our intelligence allows us to interrupt and investigate and bring those people to justice," he added.

The Taoiseach says gardaí have been promised that all resources needed to find the killers of David Byrne and bring them to justice will be provided.

He says the resources will include additional patrols and the Emergency Response Unit:

Two other people were injured in the incident, which took place during a weigh-in for a boxing match.

Investigating officers say three of the people involved in the attack wore Garda-style outfits similar to a SWAT team uniform, while one was disguised as a woman.

Young children were among those forced to dive for cover during the incident.

Up to 300 fans were at the event at the busy hotel.
