If you're really looking to escape to somewhere completely different, then this might just be the dream job for you.

The UK Antarctic Heritage Trust is looking for someone to man a post office on the tiny Antarctic Goudier Island.

The post office in the Port Lockroy base is the world's most remote. There is no WiFi, phone signal or creature comforts, and temperatures range from -15 to -5 degrees Celsius.

But it's not quite as lonely as it sounds. During the summer the port sees about 18,000 visitors, while the local penguins offer more permanent company.

The job advert spares no details on the position's difficulty:

"Are you happy not to shower for up to a month, live in close proximity to three people and 2,000 smelly penguins for five months?"

"Can you enthuse to visitors when it is -5C and blowing a blizzard as well as cook supper cheerfully after a long cold day and very little sleep?

"Living conditions are comfortable though basic with no mains power, heat or water, and limited communications."

Retail experience in s necessary, as well as good physical and mental fitness. The salary amounts to £22,000 (29,600) annually (with food and accommodation supplied.)

Sounds delightful.
