140 new jobs are to come on stream in Limerick.

Canadian company Optel Vision is setting up a manufacturing and operations centre in the Raheen Business Park.

The company makes 'track and trace' solutions for the manufacturing industries, which helps firms reduce health risks associated with mislabelling of products.

The roles will be created over five years in engineering, design, customer support, sales, HR, finance and administration activities.

The company will establish their EMEA Manufacturing and Operations Centre, at the former ON Semiconductor facility at Raheen Business Park.

Optel Vision's CEO Louis Roy said, "Design and Integration of our solutions required a lot of highly skilled persons. Ireland is offering us this unique opportunity in finding motivated and trained resources ready to support our European customers.

"With the urgency to ensure public safety against counterfeited products, our Ireland operation will position us to be the leading supplier in Europe delivering best quality solutions,” he added.

Jobs Minister Richard Bruton said the announcement "is a huge boost for the city and for the manufacturing sector nationally."
