A woman has been hospitalised following an attack during a roadside robbery in Co Wexford.

The woman was attacked by a man impersonating a garda.

She was driving to work this morning when a man driving a dark coloured, older type Ford Mondeo stopped her. The car had a blue flashing light - to give the impression it was a garda car. Gardaí have confirmed it was not a garda car.

The man approached the woman and threatened her, before assaulting her and taking a sum of money.

The attack happened at Corramacorra Junction, Murrintown, off the R733 at around 6.25 this morning.

She was taken to Wexford General Hospital for treatment.

The man left the scene in the Mondeo which was driven by a second man in the direction of Murrintown.

Gardai are appealing for anyone with information on the incident, or on the Mondeo, to get in touch.

Gardai wish to appeal for witnesses that may have seen a car fitting this description  in and around the area this morning or to anyone that may be able to assist the gardai with this investigation to contact Wexford Garda Station on 053-9165200, The Garda Confidential Telephone Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station
