The Garda Ombudsman Commission is investigating a fatal crash on the M7 in Kildare, amid reports that woman has been killed.
It has been confirmed that the woman who died in yesterday’s incident has been named as Diana Harton, aged 43 of Claregate Court, Co. Kildare.
The collision occurred at around a quarter to nine this evening just north of the Kildare exit during an alleged car chase between a Garda squad car and a green Volkswagen Polo.
Emergency services were called after the Volkswagen had crashed through the toll booth barrier at Portlaoise.
Five other people travelling in the car between the ages of 13 and 33 have been taken to hospital. Two guards are also in hospital.
The woman who has died is belived to be local and in her late 30s.
The road is currently closed and diversions are in place.
