Gardaí have arrested a woman following a serious assault in Limerick overnight in which another woman was hospitalised.

It happened around 3.30am on Parnell Street.

The injured woman was taken to University Hospital Limerick with numerous head injuries.

A technical examination of the scene is underway and the area has been sealed as gardaí continue their investigation.
