US President-elect Donald Trump has made his feelings on this time of year clear - telling people 'Merry Christmas' is back.

In a Facebook post, Mr Trump simply declares: "We're going to start saying 'Merry Christmas' again!".

This is seen in reference to the fact that 'Happy Holidays' is used by many people who may not celebrate Christmas, or be of the Christian faith.

It is also used in public schools in the US.

There are also several holidays that fall during December in the US - including Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa and the Winter Solstice.

American use of the term 'Happy Holidays' to replace 'Merry Christmas' is said to date back at least to the 1970s.

But some people seem divided on the festive greeting.

One Facebook user replied: "If you want to say Merry Christmas, say it! You don't dictate what anyone else says during the holiday season, or how someone responds to whatever you say".

Another writes: "Oh my God. It's real. The War on Christmas is being dragged from the right-wing realm of make believe and being shoved down our throats".

One reply says: "Yes, Trump is bringing back Christmas!!" - another comments: "America has always been GREAT and still say Merry Christmas! I don't need Donald Trump to be my PRESIDENT".
