The head of Twitter in Europe has said new measures they have introduced to combat online trolls 'correlate directly' with a decrease in bad behaviour on the social media site.
Speaking to the Independent newspaper, Bruce Daisley said “we have spent longer and put more effort into user safety than any other issue. The measures we’ve taken correlate directly with a reduction in the amount of bad behaviour on the platform.”
Measures taken by Twitter to tackle abuse and trolling include sending phone verification messages to individuals suspected of being "bad actors" or repeat offenders.
Users being harassed or subjected to abuse also now have access to more robust tools to block users, including the ability to share 'block lists' with other users with similar problems.
Earlier this year, a leaked memo saw former Twitter CEO Dick Costolo tell employees that "we suck at dealing with abuse and trolls on the platform and we've sucked at it for years.
"It's no secret and the rest of the world talks about it every day. We lose core user after core user by not addressing simple trolling issues that they face every day," he added.
