A large protest is expected outside Limerick Courthouse later, where more than 200 home repossession applications are listed to be heard.

The first involves 219 applications to repossess residential homes by a number of lenders and will start at 10 this morning.

A number of opposition TDs are to attend to show solidarity with homeowners before the court.

Ivan and Chris discussed the issue on Newstalk Breakfast this morning with Ivan stating that this is now becoming a political issue.

"I've no doubt what is today an emotional and legal and banking story will become a housing crisis.

"I think it's very interesting to note. Who's going to be at the protest today? Two Fianna Fáil TDs. This is going to be a political issue. I've been maintaining that the government are sleepwalking through this issue.

"The government need to come up with a proper mortgage-to-rent scheme in cases where people literally will be homeless."

The pair also discussed the upcoming Sinn Féin Ard Fheis and funding to the party.

Mary Lou McDonald will join them on air at 8.15am.
