South Dublin County Council offering elderly free high security locks

South Dublin County Council is to provide 500 High Security Cylinder Locks for free to residents under the Home Security Scheme 2017 from May 15th.

€44,000 has been allocated to the new initiative, with each new lock costing €85 including VAT & installation. Locks will be allocated on a first come first served basis. The deadline is Friday 9th June 4pm. 

The scheme is open to residents aged 55 and over and vulnerable residents living alone in privately owned accommodation. Only certain doors and locks are suitable for the scheme.

This scheme is not open to people living in private rented accommodation or SDCC tenants. 

Cllr. Trevor Gilligan PC, Fianna Fáil said: “The locks are anti-snap, anti-drill, Anti-pick & Anti-bump. I would strongly urge residents to apply as a matter of urgency.

"Whilst the long summer days are upon us, Halloween & Winter is when these locks will really help protect the elderly and vulnerable in our society."
