Some residents of an apartment complex in Dublin have voiced their anger after owners voted to pay upwards of five figure sums each to fix building defects.
The overall bill for repairs at the Beacon South Quarter apartments in Sandyford is more than €10 million.
According to the Irish Times, owners of the 880 apartments face costs of €7,500 to €15,000 each.
At the management company's Annual General Meeting last night - which lasted until the early hours of this morning - a proposal to impose a levy on the owners was passed.
It was the second attempt to hold the AGM, after last month's meeting was called off due to safety concerns after a large number of people showed up.
In a letter read out by the management company at last night's meeting, the fire officer for Dublin Fire Brigade asked for immediate and extensive work to be carried out - and warned a fire safety notice could be issued if the work was not carried out.
Other areas of the complex require work over water damage.
Last night's vote asked owners of apartments in several blocks whether millions of euro should be put into a 'sinking fund' to start paying for the work.
'Foregone conclusion'
Reporter Kieran Cuddihy told Newstalk Breakfast that the vote passing was 'a foregone conclusion' as several major commercial property companies own units at the complex.
One resident, Killian Ryan, is a spokesperson for a recently formed residents group at Beacon South Quarter.
He told Kieran: "We're disappointed with the result, but we're hoping that there'll be some alternative solutions. We're hoping to put pressure politically - and media pressure - for a resolution, in terms of getting those involved in the development originally to come back and do the job we paid in good faith for."
He explained that they are hoping for some State intervention.
"The meeting was attended by two TDs," he said. "We have a Government minister who represents us, and hopefully he can represent us well and put pressure on the Cabinet to come up with a solution.
"It's not just a Beacon South Quarter issue - it's across the ward. There's at least four other developments in our ward."
Killian pointed out that he does not currently have the means to pay for the repairs.
"I'm getting married in a couple of months time, so I just don't have the funds this year to pay for that," he observed.
