Both sides in the Luas dispute have been invited back to talks at the Workplace Relations Commission (WRC).

The talks are scheduled to take place next Monday.

A planned action for next Tuesday has been called off.

However strike action is still planned for March 17th - St Patrick's Day - and two days over Easter.

The Dublin trams will not run on Easter Sunday or Bank Holiday Monday as part of an on-going row over pay hikes of up to 53%.

The Luas operator Transdev said yesterday it was "extremely disappointed" with SIPTU and Luas drivers.

Owen Reidy from SIPTU says they are willing to talk and are willing to defer next Tuesday's strike.

TransDev released a statement in reaction to the cancellation of strike action: "Transdev has a duty to the public and Luas Customers to resolve this dispute. [We] welcome the opportunity to work with SIPTU’s proposal for Workplace Relations Commission talks [and] anticipate these talks will be difficult and long, given the scale of the pay claim before the company and the expectations that have been created. Transdev however believe the WRC will create the framework for positive discussions and look forward to a resolution in the weeks to come. [We] acknowledge strike action for next Tuesday March 8th 2016 has been cancelled. This is a welcome development."
