Honda has just released the most recent teaser photos and some information regarding the new Honda Civic Type R. To date they have released a very vague YouTube video (below), but this evening’s photos and information tells us a lot more about what’s in store.

The manufacturer tells us that extensive aerodynamic computer and wind tunnel testing has led to design enhancements to develop high speed stability and to ensure high levels of downforce. This testing is said to help ensure that the 2.0 litre direct injection VTEC Turbo engine performs to its best ability and we are told that on account of this the car can achieve a top speed of 270 km/h.

The underside of the vehicle is nearly completely flat which is said to aid airflow. This, coupled with a rear diffuser, helps optimise downforce which Honda says effectively sucks the car onto the road. Delivering even further downforce is the bespoke rear wing.

The Civic Type R will be equipped with “high performance Brembo brake package for the front wheels, developed specifically for the car. At the front, four-piston calipers apply braking force to 350 mm drilled discs. New 19-inch alloy wheels, unique to the Type R, complement the visual changes, filling the wheel arches and accommodating the larger brakes.“

For heat management reasons the car will also feature larger upper and lower grilles in the front bumper, “vents above the wheels on the front quarter panels and vents at the trailing edges of the front wheel arches” – combined these are all to provide better cool to the engine.

The Civic Type R will be unveiled at the 85th Geneva Motor Show in March. Type R fans can keep an eye on Honda's dedicated website for further updates and stories: www.redline.global
