This is an exciting role and one that requires a person with ambition, initiative and a creative spark. We exist to inform, connect and entertain so you should have a passion for media and current affairs, a strategic mind and an ability to get the job done.  Working in this fast paced and stimulating environment no two days are the same.

Community growth, relevance, collaboration and innovation. Through developing insights and working in collaboration with our Digital Editor, the successful candidate will be expected to plan what gets posted on Newstalk’s social platforms, mine relevant social content, tweak headlines, form influencer partnerships, listen to and engage with our audience and collaborate with the programming and marketing teams on best practice and innovation.

Social Media Managers have a variety of responsibilities including:

  1. Developing an insight-led publishing calendar
  2. Reviewing analytics and determining next steps
  3. Communicating and collaborating effectively with all teams on best practice implementation
  4. Engaging with our audience
  5. Listening to networks for brand mentions and keywords
  6. Mining relevant social content
  7. Actively reaching out to influencers who engage with the brand online
  8. Running experiments to optimise social media posts
  9. Developing effective promotion strategies
  10. Scheduling posts

Focus on good communication

By listening to what’s going on with social media, we can find out what is important to our audience and feed this real-time insight across the teams.

News Junkie

A social media manager needs to be in the thick of it. He or she will be able to find new opportunities for the company by keeping a pulse on the industry. They need to know where to look for the news and what people are saying about it. They also need to know what's changing on social networks and in the industry -- and be able to react and respond accordingly.  They should be skilled at "tactful newsjacking,"

Always be testing

An effective social media marketer is metrics-driven and curious and wants to find out how to do things better.  Testing is important because our audience isn’t static. Our audience or their preferences might change and it’s important to be aware of those changes. A/B testing will keep our social efforts evolving with them.

Measure and analyse metrics to understand what to do more of

Effective social media managers are analytical and can look at social media metrics, analyse them, and draw actionable information. Analysing results and ROI allows us to understand what works and build a playbook around our efforts, making it repeatable and scalable to grow our audience, engagement, and the business.

Collaboration

Newstalk is a multi-media brand and as such there are different measures of success across the varied teams. A successful social media manager should be able to effectively communicate and collaborate with all teams to affect positive social media change for the brand and programmes.
