The family of the prison officer Brian Stack, who died after being shot by the IRA, has expressed concern that Gerry Adams has not been questioned by gardaí.

The Sinn Féin president e-mailed four names to the Garda Commissioner almost a year ago, suggesting they may have information about the murder.

Mr Stack's widow Sheila and sons Austin and Oliver are meeting Taoiseach Enda Kenny at Government Buildings in Dublin.

The Stack family believes Mr Adams has information that could lead to the identification of those responsible for the killing.

They have repeatedly called on Deputy Adams to pass on any names or information he has to An Garda Síochána.

Austin Stack says he is concerned gardaí have not quizzed Mr Adams.

"There may be a reluctance to allow Gerry Adams, for political reasons, to be interviewed.

"We're just concerned about that and we just want to make sure and ask the Taoiseach to ensure - we realise that he can't obviously interfere in a murder inquiry - but we just want to make sure that the gardaí, who are very good gardaí who are doing the job at the moment, that they're allowed to do that job" he said.

Earlier, Austin Stack told Newstalk Breakfast: "We will be asking the Taoiseach to make sure that the full rigours of the State are continued to be put into resourcing this murder inquiry".

"The State owe my father this. It's not a case of pursuing one murder over other murders - it's a case that we feel that my father did this State some service, and that that should be repaid."
