A 39-year-old man is to appear in court charged in connection with an armed robbery at a shop in Dublin yesterday, which was foiled by an off-duty garda.
It happened at a convenience store on Oxmantown Road in Stoneybatter yesterday afternoon shortly before 1.30pm.
An off-duty garda entered the shop as the robbery was taking place.
The recent graduate from the Garda College in Templemore identified himself as a member of the gardaí.
The garda was then threatened at gunpoint by the raider.
He then confronted the raider and successfully disarmed him - restraining him until local gardaí arrived.
A firearm was seized and will be forensically examined. A large kitchen knife was also recovered at the scene.
The arrested man was taken to Mountjoy garda station and detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
