16 people have been remanded on bail after they appeared in court on charges arising from a three year long garda investigation into an alleged insurance compensation fraud of almost €60,000 following a series of car crashes in Co Cork .
The 10 men and six women have each been charged with at least one count of deception and one count of making a false report.
The charges arise from three separate car crashes in Rochestown, Mitchelstown and Mallow in Cork in 2011 and 2012.
The state alleges that all three crashes, were staged to allow the accused to make fraudulent claims for compensation.
Compensation of over €58,000 was paid to seven of those charged with the sums ranging under €4,000 in one case to over €12,000 in another case.
The case is to be heard in the Circuit court
