Irish diplomatic history with Russia has been a complex story.

It was the Soviet Union that vetoed Irish membership to the United Nations, a power it yielded for almost a decade, but diplomatic hostility was a two-way street as Ireland did not formally recognise the USSR until the 1970s.

Earlier than this, there seemed to be some collaboration in the days before independence.
