“I’m no Peter O’Mahony, but I’ll be damned if any clipboard-bearing official is going to stop me watering my hydrangeas... I’ve put blood, sweat and tears into my very modest patch, so watering is a must. And, while I get on well with my neighbours, if one of them rats me out, well, that’s the end of chit-chats over the fence.”
