Historic Olympia Theater Could Soon Have A Different Title Including A Sponsor Name

The Olympia Theatre on Dublin’s Dame Street could soon be renamed.

A planning application has been submitted for new signage which suggest that a sponsor’s name could be included.

Andrea asked the listeners what did they make of this possible new development.

Lansdowne Road has been called the Aviva Stadium since 2009, the Point Depot is now the 3 Arena, we have the Bord Gais TheatreKingspan Breffni Park in Cavan and many other examples throughout the country.

What do you think about this? Would you have a problem with the Olympia, which has bared that name for almost 100 years, being renamed and including a sponsor’s name?

Paul Hayes, Director of the An Tain Arts Centre in Dundalk and John Trainor CEO of Onside spoke to Andrea on this issue.
