Over 100 extra hospital beds approved for emergency departments

More than 100 extra hospital beds have been approved for emergency departments around the country.

It is in a bid to address overcrowding for the winter period.

Health Minister Simon Harris told the Oireachtas Health Committee on Wednesday he hopes 190 extra beds will be opened.

Celtic Pure water firm to go into liquidation

Bottled-water manufacturer Celtic Pure is to be placed into liquidation.

The Monaghan-based company, which employs around 75 people, has been hit by water quality issues.

In August, it emerged that some batches of water had levels of arsenic beyond what was permitted.

RTÉ defers decision to move Lyric FM from Limerick

RTÉ has deferred a decision to move its radio station Lyric FM from Limerick.

The State broadcaster said this move followed a request by the Government.

In a note to staff, RTÉ Director-General Dee Forbes said the broadcaster would wait until the outcome of a new Commission on the Future of Irish Public Service Broadcasting.

A mother who suffered horrific brain and facial injuries following a crash in 2006 says she does not remember the three months before the accident.

Gráinne Kealy from Co Laois was resting her legs on the dashboard when the jeep she was a front seat passenger in crashed into a wall, causing the airbag to deploy.

It has taken her years of hard work and determination to recover to the level she is at now.

Greta Thunberg named Time magazine's 'Person of the Year'

Climate activist Greta Thunberg has been named Time magazine's 'Person of the Year'.

The 16-year-old Swedish teenager - known for leading the school strike movement - has become the youngest ever person to receive the accolade.

In an article explaining the choice, Time's editor-in-chief Edward Felsenthal said: "Meaningful change rarely happens without the galvanizing force of influential individuals, and in 2019, the earth’s existential crisis found one in Greta Thunberg"
