Thousands of people are expected to gather to protest the cost of living in Dublin today.

Protestors will meet at Parnell Square today, Saturday, at 2:30pm.

The march, organised by the Cost of Living Campaign, aims to put pressure on the government to take action regarding the rising cost of energy, food and other essentials this winter.

Housing will also feature heavily, with opposition parties and lobby groups expected to join the crowd on the march to Leinster House.

Last week a similar protest took place in Cork, where hundreds chanted slogans like "the cost of living is rising, and so are we".

The group's demands included capping energy prices and rents, as well as introducing price controls on food.

A pay increase for workers is also needed, they say.

Cork North-Central People Before Profit TD Mick Barry told Red FM that the government is not doing enough about the "massive profiteering" of energy companies and other industries.

"Ordinary people are being hammered by this cost of living crisis", he said.

"People are choosing between heating or eating this winter."

The Cost of Living Campaign is a "grassroots campaign to fight back against the cost of living crisis".
