FREE Shakespeare in the Park returns this August to Dublin with Fortune’s Fool Productions presentation of The Tempest.  This year, performances will run from August 3rdto the 12th in the Iveagh Gardens.

Following on from last year’s successful production of Romeo & Juliet (Unplugged), The Tempest will enthrall and enchant audiences of all ages.  Beginning with a storm and a shipwreck, The Tempest unfolds on a magical, deserted island where Prospero and his daughter Miranda have been stranded for 12 years. The story of sibling rivalry, romance and comedy with more than a bit of magic and lots of redemption, The Tempest is one of Shakespeare’s most loved plays.

Starring Tim Casey as Prospero, Roisin O’Donovan as Miranda and Val O’Donnell as Alonso, this stellar cast brings this beloved story to life. Directed by Stephanie Courtney of last year’s Romeo & Juliet (Unplugged), this year’s production again does away with all

unnecessary production elements and focuses on creating a show of the highest entertainment value.  Without sound systems, lights, mics, electricity or anything else artificial, The Tempest is set to be like the exceptional unplugged performances on MTV, creating a rare and unforgettable evening of live entertainment.

Audiences are encouraged to bring picnics and blankets to enjoy this special outdoor event.  Seating is by general admission.  Shows will start at 7PM weeknights (3 August & 7-10 August) and 3PM on Saturdays and Sundays (4, 5, 11 & 12 August).   Reservations are not necessary and the Iveagh Gardens will open at 6:30 for seating.

In assoication with the href="http://www.camdencourthotel.com/">Camden Court Hotel, audiences can enjoy a special 2 course pre-show supper with tea & coffee for €18.95 at the Iveagh Restuarant. Seating begins at 5pm. Reservations are essentiall at 475-9666.  The Iveagh Restaurant is conveniently located a few steps from the Harcourt Street LUAS stop and a 5 minute walk from the Iveagh Gardens Clonmel Street Entrance.

Through the generous support of the OPW and the Iveagh Gardens, Fortune’s Fool Productions is able to offer this FREE production in one of Dublin’s most beautiful parks. With funding from private donations and sponsors like the RPA/LUAS, we are able to entertain thousands of viewers who transfixed and transformed by our work. Each night hundreds of Dubliners will enjoy and join in the creativity of dozens of artists, actors and musicians for FREE because in times like these, we desperately need to improve everyone’s quality of life and we need everyone to celebrate and revel in our culture with us.

We produce FREE Shakespeare in the park because we believe Shakespeare’s plays can be magical, transformative community experiences that must be accessible to everyone. Specifically, many children’s and student’s lives are profoundly impacted just from seeing a single production of Shakespeare. His work defines what it means to be human. We see pieces of ourselves reflected in every character and we are compelled by every situation depicted around us.  Our world is unlocked by the insights revealed to us through these stories and our lives are enriched by the sheer energy evoked from the performance of the actors. Exposing children and teens to Shakespeare in a completely accessible production in a glorious setting will feed their imaginations and reduce their fear and anxiety about learning more of Shakespeare’s and other complex literary works.  Our aim is to enhance the lives of young people and students, encouraging their personal growth and enhancing the artistic and literary growth of the community. Most importantly, FREE events like this add to the quality of our lives.
