Katie Taylor says she's not bothered by comments from those who claim she didn't deserve her win over Delfine Persoon.

The Bray boxer won the undisputed lightweight world title after a points victory over Persoon in New York.

But some observers, felt the points awarded were not an accurate reflection of the fight and that Persoon deserved more.

Off The Ball contributor and former Middleweight champion Andy Lee disagreed with that perception and felt Taylor's win was deserved.

She appeared at a press conference in Dunshaughlin today and addressed the criticism.

"I've obviously seen some of it yeah, for sure.  I haven't seen the fight yet myself but I knew at the time it was a very close fight," she said.

"I was the deserved winner"

"We were prepared for a tough fight and we were confident that we did enough early on in the fight to actually win the fight.

"So the fight could have gone either way, no doubts about it. It was a very close fight but I think I was the deserved winner and I am sitting here as the undisputed champion and I'm not too concerned about what other people are saying.

"The opinions I do care about are the people closest to me - my family and my team. They're very, very honest people and they all had me winning it 6-4."

Taylor also spoke to Off The Brawl presenter Ronan Mullen and said that title win surpasses her Olympic gold achievement.

"This is the absolute pinnacle of the sport to be undisputed champion," she said.

"I think it surpasses what I achieved as an amateur which was absolutely incredible. I'm so happy now that the London Olympics isn't my greatest achievement anymore. The best thing about it is the best is yet to come."

On Persoon, she also said, "She was everything I expected. I expected a tough fight and I knew it was going to be the toughest fight of my career. It was a touch-and-go fight really. What an absolute battle it was, what an absolute war."

Persoon may lodge a formal complaint about the result. But Taylor doesn't think there is any merit in doing that.

"You can't really lodge complaints in close fights like that," she said.

And before we forget, yes, there were a couple of Shane Ross jokes sprinkled in!
