The Republic of Ireland's crucial U21 European Championship qualifier with Italy next week is in jeopardy.

Friday night's Group 1 meeting of Iceland and Italy has been postponed after two Italian players and one staff member tested positive for COVID-19.

Those positive results came from swabs carried out on Thursday following the Azzurrinini's arrival into Iceland.

According to the Italian football federation (FIGC) the Icelandic authorities have requested that the entire Italy squad quarantine.

Jim Crawford's Ireland U21s are due to play Italy in Pisa on Tuesday.

Ireland sit top of Group 1 on 16-points, three clear of Italy but with a game more played.

Neither the FIGC or UEFA have issued an update on whether or not Tuesday's game goes ahead, but it would seem unlikely it can be played.
