Celtic and Rangers have both been hit with fines by UEFA over incidents that occured during their respective Europa League campaigns.

Rangers have been fined a total of €20,500 for three separate offences by club supporters during their Europa League clashes with SC Braga and Bayer Leverkusen.

€10,000 of that total was for a fan invading the pitch during the first leg of their last-32 tie against Braga at Ibrox Stadium plus another €5,250 for the "throwing of fireworks" during the same match.

The club was fined a further €5,250 for the “throwing of objects” in the first leg defeat of their last-16 tie against Bundesliga outfit Leverkusen earlier this month which was also at Ibrox.

It isn't the first time that Rangers have been punished by UEFA this season, having already paid a fine for the throwing of objects during their Europa League match against Villarreal at Ibrox on November 29.

The club and manager Steven Gerrard were also given a warning for the late kick-off away to Spartak Moscow on November 8.

Gerrard's Celtic counterpart Neil Lennon has been warned for the same offence.

The Parkhead club have been hit with a fine of €15,000 for the late kick-off of their last-32 match against FC Copenhagen in Denmark on February 20.

Celtic have also been warned by UEFA after breaching rules on "oversized manufacturer identification" in the return game in Glasgow.

All fines having to be paid to UEFA within 90 days.

The news comes just hours after Lennon admitted that the club are facing into a tough time financially and that pay cuts are likely.

"Yes. We'll probably have a look at things at the end of April in terms of the club as a whole," the former Northern Ireland midfielder told the BBC. "Peter Lawwell and the board will review it then".

Football in Scotland, as it is around Europe, is currently in limbo due to the coronavirus outbreak and will not resume until after April 30 at the earliest.
