Friday Prayer

It has been one week since the tragic terror attack during Friday Prayer at two Mosques in Christchurch in New Zealand.

The horrific terror attack carried out by an Australian gunman resulted in 50 dead and another 50 injured, sent shockwaves throughout New Zealand and around the world.

But what impact has that attack had on the Muslim community here in Ireland? We visited Shaykh Dr. Umar Al-Qadri at the Irish Muslim Peace & Integration Council in Blanchardstown, Dublin to find out.

We also visited the council's mosque where we spoke with local worshippers about the significance of Friday prayer, their reaction to the Christchurch attacks and what it is like for a Muslim living in Ireland.

Listen back to the podcast from reporter Barry Whyte:

Coming Together

Shaykh Dr. Umar Al-Qadri spoke about the unity within the worldwide Muslim community which helps them come together during a time of crisis.

The attack that took place in Christchurch mosques on Friday was not just an attack on Muslims in New Zealand, it was an attack on almost 2 billion people living in this world.

In order to mark the passing of one week since the attacks, the Irish Muslim Peace & Integration Council held a special memorial gathering in support of the victims of the New Zealand mosques terror attacks.
