He believes that VR can take social sharing to a new level...
Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg made a surprise appearance at Samsung’s Mobile World Congress event last night in Barcelona.
Facebook’s virtual reality firm Oculus is working with Samsung to create consumer virtual reality headsets.
He says that V.R is “the most social platform” and that it has massive potential to help users to share experiences:
"Pretty soon we’re going to live in a world where everyone has the power to share and experience whole scenes as if you’re just there, right there in person," he said.
"Imagine being able to sit in front of a campfire and hang out with friends anytime you want. Or being able to watch a movie in a private theatre with your friends anytime you want. Imagine holding a group meeting or event anywhere in the world that you want.
"All these things are going to be possible. And that’s why Facebook is investing so much early on in virtual reality. So we can hope to deliver these types of social experiences."
It has been confirmed that Facebook has a team which is developing ways to use Oculus technology to integrate VR and social media.
“We’re excited to be focused on building this next important computing platform that has the potential to be changing our lives and to be doing it with zest,” Mr Zuckerberg added.
The Mobile World Conference runs between today and Thursday - a number of product launches are expected from the world’s leading technology companies.
