A woman has died after she was hit by a Luas Tram in Dublin in the early hours of this morning.

The fatal collision occurred on the Red Line at St James Walk in Rialto just after midnight.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Gardaí said they are investigating the incident.

The scene was closed to allow a forensic investigation - but has since reopened.

The Coroner has been notified of the death and anyone with information is being asked to contact Kilmainham Garda Station on 01 666 9700.
