It’s been another bad week for charities with both Console and St. John of God’s in the headlines. John Of God’s for salary top-ups and outrageous personal spending at Console, follow on from last year’s accusations of excessive executive pay and poor governance at organisations like REHAB and the Central Remedial Clinic. Even if cases like Kelly and misappropriation of funds are rare, and even if cases like high pay are rare, are there a lot of people running charities whose hearts are in the right places, but are doing things badly, or worse, doing more harm than good.
