WATCH: First trailer for the remake to the multi-Oscar winning classic "Ben-Hur"

Jack Huston, Morgan Freeman and Toby Kebbell all appear in the reimagining

The original Ben-Hur was released in 1959, and went on to win a matched but never beaten 11 Academy Awards.

In the almost sixty years since then, the 'Roman Epic' genre was revitalized with the likes of Gladiator, but just as quickly killed off with the likes of Pompeii.

This time round, the movie is directed by Timur Bekmambetov (Wanted), with a screenplay from the writer of 12 Years A Slave, and will star Jack (grandson of John, nephew of Anjelica and Danny) Huston in the title role, with Morgan Freeman and Toby Kebbell is supporting roles.

The original movie was lauded for it's stellar stunt-work, specifically within the now historic chariot race scene. With CGI now readily available, it will be interesting to see if Bekmambetov will use it as a crutch, or perhaps return to a more practical way of filming action sequences.

Ben-Hur will be hoping to re-revitalize the genre when it arrives in Irish cinemas on August 26th this year.
