The Special Criminal Court has found two Dublin men guilty of the murder of a dissident republican in Co Meath.
Peter Butterly was shot dead in the car park of the Huntsman Inn in Gormanston in March 2013.
It took Mr. Justice Tony Hunt two and a half hours to go through the court’s reasons for the guilty verdicts.
In relation to Edward McGrath from Springfield in Tallaght, he said it was clear he was the driver of a stolen Toyota Corolla that carried the gunman.
Given the fact he was seen wearing a “big bushy wig” and knew his passenger was crouched behind his seat with the back windows open, he said it was inconceivable he didn’t know what was likely to happen.
His co-accused Sharif Kelly from Pinewood Grove Road in Balbriggan was found to be the driver of a second getaway car.
The suspected gunman didn't show up for his trial and is on the run.
A fourth man called David Cullen was caught red-handed with the gun after it was thrown from the Corolla, but he gave evidence against the others and is now in the State’s Witness Protection Programme.
McGrath and Kelly will be sentenced next month.
