Garda Keith Harrison says he regrets not telling his superiors about his relationship with Marissa Simms when he was transferred to Buncrana in Donegal.

Ms Simms’ brother was convicted of killing a garda attached to Buncrana Garda Station shortly after the transfer.

The Disclosures Tribunal is examining claims by Garda Harrison that he was the subject of a smear campaign by senior gardaí.

Garda Keith Harrison took the stand at the Disclosures Tribunal this morning, and gave a brief description of his career so far.

While Garda Harrison had difficulties in his previous posting in Athlone, the Tribunal is not looking into these matters, and he’s been asked to focus on his time in Donegal, where he was transferred in March 2011.

This afternoon, Garda Harrison accepted that it would have been the correct thing to do to tell his superiors in Buncrana that he was in a relationship with Marissa Simms.

Ms Simms’ brother was convicted in July 2011 of the manslaughter of Buncrana-based garda Gary McLaughlin in 2009.

Garda Harrison was transferred to Donegal garda station in June, having been told there was less ‘rawness’ there in relation to the death of Garda McLaughlin.

This morning Marissa Simms became emotional when she said that all she wanted was peace.

Ms Simms said her children did not deserve to have Id’s in the Garda Pulse stem.

She said she didn’t want to be involved in the Tribunal, nor with GSOC, nor have her partner involved with the High Court.
