Thursday's weather: cold at first but bright spells developing

Scattered showers with clear spells and cold this morning with some frost and a risk of icy patches on untreated roads around dawn. Some of the showers will be heavy and will fall as hail or sleet on higher ground.

Bright or sunny spells developing during the morning and showers will become isolated for a time in the afternoon.

Highest temperatures of just 4 to 7 degrees with fresh to strong and gusty westerly winds in the morning making it feel colder, the winds will moderate in the afternoon.


Cloudy tonight with showers or longer spells of rain affecting Connacht, Munster and south Leinster, with some wintry falls in places. Elsewhere it will be mostly dry with clear spells, light winds and a risk of icy patches on the roads.

Lowest temperatures of +3 to -1 degrees in light to moderate variable breezes.
