Three people have been taken to hospital after a serious collision in Co Laois.

The accident, which involved two vehicles, happened at around 10.10pm last night at Clonkeen, Portlaoise.

The drivers, an 18-year-old man and a woman in her 60s, were both taken to Tullamore Hospital.

Another 18-year-old female passenger was also taken to Tallaght Hospital and is said to be in a critical condition.

The road is currently closed for technical examination and local diversions are in place.
