The jurors in the trial of a man accused of murdering a 47-year-old father of eight in Offaly are beginning their third day of deliberations this morning.

Ross Allen, of Kilmonaghan Lodge in Clara, is accused of playing a part in the murder of Christy Daly in January 2014.

Christy Daly’s body was found in a drain near his home outside Clara. He’d been beaten and shot several times.

The prosecution believes he was shot by two Dublin assassins after he came across a bag of drugs in a laneway near his caravan.

On Monday the jurors were told they can consider the lesser charge of manslaughter. They have yet to reach a verdict.

Last week, the DPP dropped the murder charge against Matthew Gralton of Mount Prospect in Co. Roscommon.
