Talks between the Garda Representative Association (GRA) and the Justice Department at the Labour Court have been adjourned until 8pm.

A meeting of the GRA's executive committee is to take place at 7pm.

Earlier, the Taoiseach said 'there's no question' of the army standing in for the gardaí if they go ahead with their planned strike.

With just two days to go before 12,000 members of the force refuse to report for duty, last ditch talks have been taking place at the Labour Court.

The Association of Garda Sergeants and Inspectors (AGSI) will be at the court tomorrow.

Gardaí may be asked to postpone Friday's action, until the Labour Court reaches a ruling.

The Garda Commissioner Nóirín O’Sullivan has already written to every member of the force instructing them to turn up for work on Friday - and has cancelled all leave.

But Enda Kenny says no matter what happens we will not have the army on the streets.

Meanwhile, the AGSI has welcomed the Taoiseach's suggestion that guards will be given full, permanent access to industrial relations mechanisms.

The body says access to the Workplace Relations commission and Labour Court is a victory for its members.
