Today will start out largely dry with sunshine for a lot of the country - but showers continue in the west and will extend to all areas this afternoon.
Highest temperatures 14 to 17 degrees with moderate, occasionally fresh southerly winds.
Cloud will thicken from the west and rain will arrive there early tonight, extending eastwards overnight, becoming persistent and heavy at times.
Accompanying the rain the freshening southerly winds will back southeasterly and increase strong.
Lowest temperatures 9 or 10 degrees.
