A passenger liner will have to spend the night anchored in the Irish Sea after it was unable to dock.

Stena Line says its vessel from Rosslare to Fishguard Harbour in Pembrokeshire could not berth due to extreme weather conditions.

The company says passengers will remain on board overnight and it will try again at midday tomorrow.

There are reported to be 87 passengers and 59 crew members on board the Stena Europe vessel.

It comes as more than 70 flood warnings are in place in the UK after large parts of England and Wales were battered by heavy rain and gale force winds.

The torrential conditions caused travel disruption as train services were cancelled, cars were submerged and motorists had to be rescued after becoming trapped in floodwater.

Three weather warnings are also in place for Ireland overnight.
