Steeltech Sheds has announced its plans to pump €5 million into its Tuam headquarters over the next three years.

The move will create 43 jobs at the company over the next 12 months and is spurred by substantial growth in its UK export business.

One of the country's biggest producers of garden sheds, steel sheds and garages, Steeltech now has four sales depots across Great Britain.

The new positions will be in the area of manufacturing, distribution and office support. They will bring the total workforce at the old Coca Cola site on the Galway Road to 170 by the end of the year.

Jobs Minister Mary Mitchell O'Connor hailed the investment as a great boost for the West:

"I'm delighted to be going to the regions and obviously even more delighted because it is my home town – or very near my home town – and there's [43] jobs there this morning."

The news comes hot-on-the-heels of Tech Mahindra's announcement this morning that it will bring 150 new engineering jobs to Dublin

The IT services company opened its Centre of Excellence in Citywest today and is set to fill 35 of the positions immediately. The rest of the positions will come on-stream within the next three years.
