The sister of a Dublin teenager who was murdered while in State care in 2010 has said she hopes his killers “rot in hell”.

Daniel McAnaspie was stabbed to death at Tolka Valley Park in Blanchardstown before his body was dumped in a ditch in Co Meath.

In her Victim Impact Statement, Daniel McAnaspie’s sister Nikita described how they spent months looking for Daniel while the people who killed him just watched them search.

Daniel was 17 and in State care when he went missing in Feb 2010. His body was found by a farmer on his land in Co Meath three months later.

Richard Dekker was convicted of his murder last month. His co-accused Trevor Noone is still awaiting sentence for his manslaughter. Both men are from Dublin 15.

The court heard Daniel was stabbed to death with the blade of a garden shears and that both men blamed the other during their Garda interviews.

Nikita said the family couldn’t identify him or have an open coffin at his funeral – such was the extent of his injuries.

"The people that killed Daniel did not care what happened to him, and left his body to rot in a ditch," she said. "As a result of this, we couldn't even say our final goodbye to him."

Richard Dekker was handed a life sentence this afternoon, while the sentence hearing of his co-accused Trevor Noone continues.
