Scientists believe they are getting closer to finding a cure for difficult-to-treat brain tumuors in children.

According to experts, research has shown that more curable tumours develop 'leaky' blood vessels in the early stages of the condition. They believe that this information could prove beneficial in helping them to advance the treatment of other tumours.

Dr Aine McCarthy from Cancer Research UK, explains the science behind this.

''If we can make the blood vessels of the less curable types more leaky, then chemotherapy drugs might have a better chance of getting across the blood brain barrier to kill the cancer cells.''
