Trade union SIPTU wants the Health Service Executive (HSE) to reopen its invitation to take part in a forum about overcrowding in Irish hospitals.

The union says its members were originally included in the gatherings, which are aimed at evaluating what can be done to improve conditions in our Emergency Departments.

Paul bell from SIPTU says he wants to know why the HSE took back their invitation:

"The HSE issued an invitation to SIPTU to attend local discussions to assist in this process and, at the latter part of last week, the invitation was rescinded - without explanation.

Our members are deeply concerned about that because we do agree that members like healthcare assistants, radiographers, ambulance personnel have a role to play in the Accident & Emergency Department."
