Rotunda Hospital delivers first babies of 2017

Rotunda Hospital in Dublin welcomed the first babies of 2017.

Twin boys were delivered at one second past midnight and six minutes past midnight respectively, according to the hospital.

The newborns weighed in at 6.17 pounds (2.8kg) and 5.9 pounds (2.68kg), and mother and babies are reported to be in good health.

In the National Maternity Hospital at Holles St in Dublin, a boy named Arlo was born at 50 seconds past midnight to mother Stacey Kenny and her husband Elton from Clonsilla in Dublin.

Meanwhile, the first baby of the New Year at the Coombe Hospital in Dublin was born at 7.45am.

The parents of the yet-to-be-named newborn are Ben and Rose Waldron from Kilcock, Co Kildare.

The baby weighed in at seven pounds 12 ounces (3.2kg).
