The cigarettes were branded ‘L&M’ and ‘Parliament’ and are said to have a retail value of approximately €5,700, which represents a potential loss to the Exchequer of €4,500.

The 38 year old Latvian man was brought before Dublin District Court this morning the 17th of February, when Judge Anthony Halpin imposed a fine of €2,500.

The revenue issued a warning to the public saying "The majority of people pay the right amount of tax and duty. If you know someone is evading tax or involved in smuggling, report it."
