Reports: GRA have rejected the deal

They were involved in talks on Monday

There are reports that the GRA has rejected the latest deal aimed at averting this Friday's threatened Garda strike.

Members of the GRA Central Executive Committee have spent much of the night in talks, after travelling to Dublin from all over the country to consider proposals put forward by the Justice Department - which included a plan for a 4-thousand euro allowance to be restored to officers, as well as additional pay for time spent briefing colleagues before the start of a new shift.

Those talks have now concluded and a statement is expected from the association shortly.

The National Executive of the Association of Garda Sergeants and Inspectors are due to meeting in the morning.

The AGSI which represents middle ranking Gardai - also met with officials from the Justice Department at the weekend but those talks broke up early yesterday morning, without agreement.
